Pensive mood!

My name is Vincent Sherlock.  I was born in Moygara, Co. Sligo and am the youngest of three brothers.  I was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Achonry in June 1987 and have, since then, worked in the parishes of Carracastle, Kilmovee, Collooney, and with the Galway Regional Marriage Tribunal. From 2000 to 2009 I was a curate the Parish of Ballaghaderreen and since September 2009, I have been Parish Priest in Kilmovee, Co. Mayo.  While in Galway I became interested in the internet and set up a web site for the Diocese of Achonry - more as a hobby than anything – and since then it has developed and now serves as an important tool of communication in the diocese.

Most of the posts on this blog are either drawn from personal experiences or things I like.  Quite often they’re not too serious but occasionally can be a bit more personal.  I have to say I enjoy using this blog and wish that I could be more disciplined in keeping regular input going.  Anyway, it is what it is.  I’m glad you stopped by and hope you enjoy.  Suggestions and links of interest are always welcome.  Be kind now!!

    Hi Fr
I’m doing some some geneaological search and it appears that my family has links in Glackaunadarragh. They would have come to Glasgow before and after the famine.
I was just browsing and came across the Diocesan webpage. I had an enjoyable read.
I’m hoping to visit the Arigna Valley next year to try to find out more information about my ancestors. Would you know of any local historians or diocesan archivists etc whom I could approach for information? Who might be able to do some paid “digging” for me before I visit?
I’d be grateful if you could recommend someone.
Sorry for bothering you. Still listening to Johnny Cash???
    Thanks.

Bill, glad you’re enjoying Johnny Cash! Sorry the place name Glackaunadarragh does not ring any bells for me. Arigna would be quite a bit from here and in another diocese. Have you any more specific details of parish etc?

    Hello Vincent,

Just read “Day and Date (The Year of The Priest)” again. You have a gentle spirit, are always willing to just listen and not condemn – even when one of us says something awkward. You really have a gift! You have been a blessing in our lives so many times over the past 12 years and for numerous others on both sides of the ocean. Heaven knows we have been extremely fortunate for the wonderful times we have with you – to laugh, to celebrate, to sympathise … to love and be loved.

Thank you, Vincent, and belated Happy Anniversary!

    All our love,
    Jeanie and Corky
    Annandale VA

Fr. Vincent, Last evening I sent you a note of congratulations on your new appoitnment, and to thank you for the Achonry website with its easy acces to Cardinal Sean O Malley – whose practical and inspirational comments on his priesthood were enlightening and helpful. Thank you. Keep the Cardinal on your books !

Richard, thanks for your email and posting. I appreciate both very much and take your point on “appointments” rather than “changes”. Gave me something to reflect upon. I think Cardinal O’Malley’s Blog provides a great service and was, truth be told, the reason I started having a go. Different league admittedly. I’d hope we might develop a Diocesan Blog where our own bishop and others might post reflective thoughts. As it is, there’s an attempt at that already but there’s room for development. Please God! Thanks again, Vincent

    Hello Father Vincent,

I enjoyed the Talent Show yesterday in Ballaghaderreen (Ballagh Got Talent) and took a few shots, too.

Everybody interested can have a look at them and / or order some through photobox.ie at http://www.photoboxgallery.com/3010061 from tomorrow on.

    Cheers,

    Julia

P.S. friends of mine thought, it would have been good to give awards for second and third place, too.
