We used to call him “Patch” (not sure why – maybe elbow patches on his jacket). He was a superb maths teacher. Although I didn’t really get maths I managed a “D” in hons maths. I enjoyed his classes because of what you described…the way he used the board, and the chalk. I got a kick out of integration and differentiation, but didn’t really understand them…to paraphrase the ad on TV now…”I don’t understand a word you’re saying but I love the way you say it”

May he rest in peace.

While in Medjugorje in 1995 a week before my Mother died at home in Dublin.Our Lady gave me the most amazing blessing.she spoke to me.Yes I know it sounds crazy ,But it was real,I was sitting on my bed at night and I was feeling low and concerned about my Mother.As there was a war on I could not phone home.I trusted Sister Breige Mc Kenna’s prayer’s a few days before I travelled.As I sat there I asked Our Lady “What am I doing here?” I was wondering why I had come here.
An amazing peace surounded me and it was as if some one had taken all my thoughts and placed them on the other side of the room. I heard clearly back.
“You are here because I choose you” The peace still remained and I was shown my thoughts,as if they were in a washing machine ,turning around,babbling away.lol.It was so funny to realise I was more than my thoughts.I returned home and My Mother died two days later ,I was with her.the power that flowed through me after her death was huge .Sister Briege was back in Ireland ,she also had been in Meddjugorje the same week.
This is the first time I have shared this story.I am blessed by this experience and know that we all are ! .

Dear Fr Vincent
Thank you for your wonderful blog and your very inspirational Lent. Have been reading every day – from the fun bits like Alpha’s sore paw – right up to today’s lovely video of He’s Alive. The letters, Dear Jesus, Dear Veronica etc were great and the Dawn Mass sounds lovely.
Why is it that we so seldom read or see anything nice or anything good in the Press nowadays. I wish more people could get to read your Blog.
